I know I am totally biased, but what's not to love about this issue of Gwinnett Magazine? Stories of amazing, real women in our community, coverage of our big Diva Party, tips for launching your own business, the latest fashion trends, home improvement ideas, and more.
Our eighth "almost annual" Gwinnett Magazine Diva celebration, presented by our friends at Salon 124, was Aug. 28 and rocked Gwinnett (literally) with our first ever live 80's Diva Dance Party. Imagine 300 of Gwinnett's most accomplished woman doing their best Cyndi Lauper or Go-Go's imitation. It was great fun and all for a great cause. The United Way Women's Legacy Awards (which immediately followed our event) cast a bright spotlight on the tireless efforts of four amazing women in our midst. Read their stories starting on page 47. The best part? All the proceeds raised from the day go to help Gwinnett women and children in need. Last year, the United Way put $40,000 back into the place we all call home through this event. You can check out all the fun online at www.gwinnettmagazine.com/diva.
Did you know women own almost 30 percent of the businesses in Gwinnett? Gwinnett and metro Atlanta have long been national leaders in the number of female entrepreneurs and women in leadership roles. In this issue, we talk to some of these trailblazers and ask them about their defining moments. I was inspired and amazed by the courage and passion these women portrayed. And if the seed has been planted in you to step out in faith with your own dream of business ownership, we have a great article on how to get started with insights from one of the nation's most respected experts on the topic (...who just so happens to be a Gwinnettian and Diva in her own right.)
Finally, I must give a shout out to Dr. Bill Williams and the amazing staff at Suwanee Dental Care. For the last 12 months, we have been honored to help them promote their Deserving Diva Initiative. Last fall, the practice solicited nominations for a deserving local woman to receive a free, total dental makeover. Hundreds of nominations were submitted. Moved by the stories and genuine need, Dr. Williams and his team decided to do not one, but four total smile transformations – that's over $100,000 in free dental and cosmetic services. We got to meet these lucky ladies, see their beautiful transformations and meet the dental staff that made it happen at our Diva Party. You can meet them at www.suwaneedental.com.
All this girl power has me ready for a massage and a facial! I hope you enjoy this issue of Gwinnett Magazine. And guys, don't worry, we'll get back to you next month!
